Inscription
In the lower left, reads: ruz-e panj šanba haftom-e šahr-e moḥarram al-ḥad[ā]m sana 1093 ba etmām rasid. mašqa moʿin-e moṣavver. Translation: “Completed on Thursday the seventh of the Holy month of Moḥarram in the year 1093/16 January 1682. Drawn by Moʿin Moṣavver.” The inscription appears to be in Moʿin’s handwriting.

Description:
A youth is portrayed standing, facing toward the left, pouring wine from a long-necked bottle in his left hand, into a cup held in his right. He wears a fur hat, a violet colored knee length coat knotted at the waist with a sash, tight fitting pants, and slippers. A dagger protrudes from underneath the sash. The background consists of stylized plants and clouds in gold evenly dispersed over the surface. Abrasion has caused some damage to the youth’s face.

Commentary:
Although this painting may not be one of Moʿin’s best works, the signed inscription in his own handwriting, and the stylistic similarities with youths portrayed in some of his other miniatures -- cf. 1653.1 and 1673.1 -- add credence to its attribution to Moʿin.
